Atelier Africa Safaris

Overall rating:

“Safari” means “Journey” in Swahili, the local language in East-Africa. The word became popular in the 1930s when Ernest Hemingway traveled to Africa for a tree-month safari and came back with two best-sellers: The Green Hills of Africa and the Snows of the Kilimanjaro. Atelier Africa Safaris is specialised in creating those classic & luxury Hemingway safaris with the comforts of the 21st Century. We can bring you close to nature, wildlife, adventure and guarantee that you are hosted in places that are unparalleled in their comfort.

Our Itineraries.
Africa has so much to offer and we want to make sure you get the chance to explore it to the fullest. Once you made a choice on your destination we will help you combine the best wildlife areas for that season with the most amazing activities that you wish to do. We will put everything on offer to you, so you only have to say the word and we’ll book and organise the whole safari, planned to the dot.

What a fantastic trip. We flew from Belgium to Nairobi where we were picked up by a driver who brought us to our first hotel Ngong House. A beautiful hotel where you can rest and acclimatize with a nice gin and tonic by the pool. The tree houses are adorable, with beautiful views and the most amazing birds. In the afternoon we visited a giraf center where you could feed and stroke these beautiful creators.
The day after we left our hotel to go to the airport again where we flew with a little plane to Mombasa. From there a driver took us to our next hotel Msambweni beach house & private villa's. If there was a heaven on earth Masambweni beach house would be it. A place so tranquille with a few on the Indian ocean. The staff, the food, the pool… it was all perfect. From our hotel we went to visit a little town, we also visited Mombasa, but most of all for us it was the perfect family holiday, where we could all be together and relax.
After a lovely stay of 8 days we went back to Nairobi, stayed one more day at Ngong House where we visited an elephant orphanage before we flew back to belgium

Beautiful safari & road trip on Namibia's long stretched gravel roads, stunning views of nature and wildlife, some very special places, and very friendly staff everywhere we stayed. Naming desert and Deadvlei were cool to see. The safaris were very well organised and fun, and we spotted lots of stunning wildlife, sometimes in tribes. Guide Craig in Okonjima was exceptional. Most special accomodation of our trip: the penthouse of Pelican Point Lodge - 360 views, amazing service, cool design, and delicious meals in a cosy (gezellig) atmosphere. Our itinerary has been designed with care and taking into account or wishes (diversity of activities, not only safaris) - Timo and Michele did a great job and we would recommend them immediately.

Together with our girls (17 & 15 years old) we had an unforgettable first experience with Africa. A 14 day road trip through Namibia, staying in some amazing lodges and doing unbelievable trackings, looking for elephants, giraffes, leopards, rhino's, ... (and we all found them!) Visiting deadvlei and climbing 'big daddy' (=dune) is an absolute must-do while visiting Namibia. Many thanks to Timo & Michele for proposing and planning this fantastic trip through Namibia!

You are the best!

We traveled as a family with 4 adults, 3 kids, two Toyota Land-cruisers.

It was splendid and most of the pre-planning paid off and was accurate (with some adventurous mishaps here and there).

All in all - an awesome experience. We'll be back.

Timo & Michele did a great job putting it together with all the constraints we placed on them. 95% of the selections were great.

This is the 2nd trip we plan with them, the first was more for beginners in Namibia. This was more advanced :-)

Highly recommended!

About a year ago we (two families, 4 adults and 8 'kids' ages 16 up to 23)decided to spend our holidays in Africa. Friends of ours made a similar trip with Timo and Michele and were very satisfied so we contacted them for a tailor made trip.
We wanted to visit Cape Town as well as Namibia. To make reservations for twelve and not having to compromise on comfort and experience was quite a challenge but right from the start Timo and Michele were 'hands-on'.
We had an amazing time in Cape Town where '52 De Wet' in Bantry Bay was beyond our expectations. We couldn't ask for anything more! We hired a car and explored the environment coming 'home' every evening welcomed by the nice staff. '138 Marine Beachfront guesthouse' in Hermanus also was a nice B&B and ideal for whalewatching and seeing the penguins in a more beautiful environment than Boulder's Beach.

After 6 days we took a flight to Windhoek and started our journey in Gocheganas. Right from the start we had that 'Africa-feeling'. We had a Toyota 14-seater driven by a top-class driver/guide Rusten Philips Muranda. He made up for the 'inconvenience' of the minivan compared by a 4x4. Whenever you book with Atelier Africa ask for Rusten, he's the guy! He took us to the hospital in his hometown and a primary school in Windhoek, things you aren't able to enter on your own.

Our trip went through the Kalahari Desert, to the Namib Naukluft Park (Sossuvlei, Deadvlei, Sesriem Canyon), Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Damaraland, a Himba-village, Etosha, Okonjima and back to Windhoek. Everything was well planned and all the lodges were amazing. We definitely would advise you to stay overnight at the Pelican Point lodge at Walvisbay and 'Onguma The Fort' in the east of Etosha. Both of these lodges have that extra dimension. In fact every lodge was unique, staying at 'the Mirage', taking a shower under the stars in 'Etendeka Mountain Camp' as well as taking a bath on the terrace by sunset in 'Eagle tented lodge' are things we will never forget.
And off course the beautiful nature and its wildlife keeps on amazing.

As you can imagine, we would like to go back any time and if we are, Timo and Michele for sure will hear from us!

Okavango waren schitterend. Dank aan Timo voor de tijd die hij genomen heeft via skype om dit allemaal te bespreken (ook airstrips enz...)

He made Some Good suggestions and so we got the trip we asked for and even more. Everything was planned very good and all the document were given on time. We met Timo the first day in Windhoek and he explained the whole route for us. We started our trip with a great car from Asco. Never had problems with the car! All the lodges we visited were amazing. You can't imagine till you are there! In each lodge the service was great, the food really good, the view Unreal and the staff so friendly! We Booked all our activities in front with Timo and they were stunning with help from professional guides. Our most favorite lodges were in the kalahri, ongava and onguma in etosha, and Okonjima! You get the small lodges that are not that touristic with private game reserve. We focussed on wildlife and saw our big five and lots more. In my believe, notthing can be improved because it was our most amazing africa trip! We visited manny african countries before but none could top this one. I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm just trying to say "Thank you Timo"! You Will definatly hear from us again!

Almost two years ago we (two families with adult children, 8 persons) decided to visit Namibia. We believe in a thorough preparation and took some time to compare different companies and possibilities. We obtained for a safari with a driver tailor made according to our wishes. From a travel magazine we came in contact with Atelier Africa and contacted Timo and Michelle. Right from the start we were charmed by their professionalism, enthusiasm and correctness. They came up with an itinerary proposal, various lodges and activities to choose from. Different counterproposals from our side were discussed by mail and eventually included without any problem. Timo and Michelle visited us even at home during one of their European hop overs to discuss the final plans. The financial picture was very clear from the beginning without any "hidden" surprises.
We are now a few days back home after a truly astonishing trip. We made a "counter clock trip " in Namibia of 15 days visiting Okonjima (Plains Camp), Etosha east (Onguma Bush Camp), Etosha West (Epacha Game Lodge), Damaraland (Mowani Mountain Camp), Swakopmund (Desert Breeze), Sossusvlei (Le Mirage), Kalahari Desert (Zebra Kalahari Lodge) and Gocheganas. It was hard , perhaps impossible, to name a "top 3". All of the places were simply fantastic. The organization was perfect without any unpleasant surprise. Both the elderly participants and the youth (20-28y) had a wonderful time. Our driver John was very professional and always eager to fulfill our wishes and we learned some "Afrikaans".
We have seen a lot of places in the world but Namibia has stolen our hearts. To see this country with all her treasures we can only recommend Atelier Afrika, Timo and Michelle. Thanks to both of you !!
Already we have some plans to take another trip to Botswana and let there be no doubt: we go with Atelier Afrika!

As we visited a few times South Africa and Kenya, Namibia was on our bucket list for quite a long time already. We pointed out the date to make this trip on our 25th wedding anniversary and meeting Louise, our best South African friend, over there. A safari starts the day you make your plans... and this way we cybermet with Timo and Michele. As from the start we had the right 'click'. Tailormade is the right word. It was exactly what we wanted for this kind of trip !

First of all, the car ! Atelier Africa was the only one who quote us standard a 4x4, so that was already where we decided to go ahead with them :). The double tank avoides having fuel problems !

As we had 12 days in Namibia, Timo helped us to point out the right highlights and as for us in the good direction... The nice mail conversations we had preparing our trip, made it feel like meeting an old friend when we arrived.

Flying from Frankfurt we could start our journey an early monday morning. Picking up the car and having a nice breakfast meeting with Timo to look at the details.
Intu Afrika was the right spot to start, the tented camp at Surricate Lodge brought back the Africa feeling as from the start. As from there it only went crescendo.. Le Mirage and the amazing Sossusvlei, Swakopmund Hotel and the Mola Mola Cruise - a realy nice experience - driving to Twyfelfontein, the spirit of Grootberg Lodge and tracking the desert elephants, looking at great skies. At Epacha we had the time of our life... "tailormade" as Louise and Timo worked out some very nice surprises and in-between visiting Etosha...Last days at Okondjima and Africat added yet another dimension.

And then it all ends where it begun... a good bottle of wine with Timo in Windhoek, looking back at two wonderful weeks, and already making plans for the next trip...
You might leave Africa but (atelier) Africa never leaves you !

Thank you very much
Marleen & Kris

One day we discovered Atelier Africa in a magazine and we remembered the name. When time was right, we asked them to assemble a trip to Namibia. We wrote some mails to Timo Denys and soon we came to the perfect trip : not too busy, yet still enough to see.
We were welcomed by Timo himself at the airport, and over a coffee and breakfast, he explained us the overview of the trip. He joined us to the car hire company, and then he left us, ready to go.
We started with 2 days Kalahari, followed by the Tok Tokkie Trails (a great experiance, never seen that many stars), 2 days in the magnificant Wolwedans Dunes Camp with a beautiful hot-air ballooning over the Namib desert.
Then we drove to Walvis Bay, where we stayed in the peacefull Pelican Lodge, for another 2 nights. Getting there was an adventure but it was worth the trip. We had a warm welcome and the food was great. Also the Mola Mola Marine Cruise was nice. We met Captain Iglo himself !
Next stop was the Epacha Game Lodge for 3 nights. We were lucky to be the guests of a Belgian wedding party in the bush. We also saw a rhino family, including a baby !
At the end we spend 3 nights in the luxurious Onguma The Fort. Time for relaxation, walking safari,...
Finally, we drove back to Windhoek and stayed the last night in Villa Verdi Guesthouse. Time for some last rays of sunshine before getting back to the winter in Belgium.
The whole trip was very well organised by Timo and his lovely wife Michele. There was nothing we couldn't ask them ! Thanks again.

Through Leading Lodges we got in contact with Timo and Michel of Atelier Africa. After getting some proposals and letting them know our preferences, they assembled a tailor-made safari, completely to our desires. When arriving in Windhoek, Timo picked us up at the airport and our wonderful experience could begin. To acclimatize, Timo and Michel took us out dining the first evening. The first introduction to the fine Namibian food! After an evening we really enjoyed, we were dropped off at our hotel, with the best 4x4 jeep we could have for our safari and with a bunch of tips and tricks.
Our first stop was in the Kalahari – just as Michel described - we experienced the most beautiful sky full of stars. To us it was the perfect place to start the tour. Along Sossusvlei, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Grootberg , Etocha off course, Waterberg and Erinidi our journey developed itself perfect with increasing nature and wildlife experience. And when we didn’t succeed in booking some (suggested) activities, Timo and Michel were just one call away.
For sure this has been the most fantastic holiday so far and it only makes us dreaming about exploring more of southern Africa. It would be great if Timo and Michele could help us planning further trips – it’s very nice to be in room number 1 ;-).
